What is worship?
Worship means to show worth or value to something or someone. As a United Methodist Church, we believe that God alone is worthy of worship. Worship is central to our identity and the touchstone for all that we do. Through worship we express our gratitude with praise, thanksgiving, time, service, gifts and sacrifice. Worship is for an audience of One.
While the focal point of worship is God, we also benefit as individuals and as a community. Through our worship, we experience the personal presence of the Holy Spirit, a relationship with Jesus, and begin to see the depth of the mystery of a divine and triune God. In worship we often experience the power of forgiveness, inspiration to not give up hope, and an empowerment that gives us strength to boldly and joyfully share the Good News that God “so loved the world that he gave his only son so that whoever believes in him would not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) We are changed in worship to change the world in the name of Jesus.
We invite you to come and experience worship with us.
Traditional Worship: 8:30 & 11:00 AM in the Sanctuary

We have a “spirited” traditional worship service. Why? Because we strive to follow the Holy Spirit in shaping a worship service that is both meaningful and memorable (and never boring). In this service we sing hymns of the faith with a song leader, dynamic organ and piano, and an occasional vocal or instrumental soloist. Our choir is a talented and Spirit-filled group who offer inspiring music connected with the scripture and worship theme of the day. We pray the Lord’s Prayer, responsively read affirmations of faith and prayers, and sing the Doxology. The sermon is always based on the timeless truths of God and presented in thoughtful and practical ways for today. All these acts of worship are done with Spirit-filled hearts turned toward God who is the foundation of our faith.
In both settings of our traditional worship, we also include a thought-provoking time for our children. A Children’s Worship follows this teaching time in the 11:00 a.m. service, which is held in Wesley Hall. Questions about Children’s Worship and questions about parent orientation can be directed to our Director of Children’s Ministries through the church office.
Come enjoy the timeless beauty of our sanctuary and be prepared to experience the presence of a living Christ!
Contemporary Worship, “The Journey” 11:00 in the Multi-Purpose Room
The Journey is intentionally designed to be a casual approach to contemporary worship. We try to create a relaxed and casual environment for worship to take place. The Journey is a far cry from your traditional “sanctuary worship” service and seeks to utilize different types of contemporary music, creative video and media presentations and a variety of sermon styles that always involve practical application.
The Journey is just one of the worship options that Fountain City UMC offers each week. Come “Find Your Path” and begin your journey of worship with us here at FCUMC.
What to expect: When you enter the service, you will be greeted and welcomed. Grab a cup of coffee if you want! Our bulletin tells a little about what is going on here at FCUMC, as well as giving some space for notes. Kids are welcome and encouraged to come, but we also offer a Wee Worship service (with pagers for the parents) for the really little ones. Music is provided by guitars, keyboards, drums, and singers. There is no standard dress for this service – dress down, dress up, come in your work clothes – just come!
