Thanks for checking in with us at FCUMC!
If you are a visitor among us, we are delighted that you have found us online and hope you will, now, decide to come be with us in person. We are a congregation of some 1850 members, with an average worship attendance of 650 in three Sunday morning worship services. As you explore our website, you will learn much about us; but if you are unable to find what you need, please feel free to give us a call (865) 689-5175 or email us at fcumc@fountaincityumc.org or just stop by (map)! We look forward to getting acquainted with you.
If you would like to read our weekly newsletter, “The Spirit,” you can find the most recent editions here.
If you are a member or regular attender, we are glad that you are seeking more information about your church. You already know that we are an alive, vibrant church reaching out to the community and world in the name of Christ. You can find out more information on the ministries of the church under the “Ministries” header at the top of the site. You can also find out more about ministries that we support outside of the church by visiting the links on the right-hand side. We are grateful for the ways in which you are already serving with us.
We are grateful to God for allowing us to be a part of the Body of Christ. We have been here on Hotel Road in Knoxville for 184 years and hope you will travel with us into the next 184 years. Even if you are a part of another congregation, or live some distance away, we ask for your prayers for us as we seek to be the church God wants us to be.
Getting to Know Us!
If you are a recent visitor or guest or attender or new member and want to get to know us better, here’s your opportunity. We offer an on-going series of classes called “Getting to Know Us” for people who may be new to the church and want to know a little more about who Fountain City United Church is. We hope you will join us for these conversational sessions and that they will help you become a better disciple and a more active part of our ministry here. It will also be a great way to become better acquainted with others, including our staff.
There are five different sessions, and you can “plug in” anytime you want to. You don’t have to participate in them in any particular order. What you miss on a particular Sunday will be repeated in five weeks. You can finish the sessions in five weeks or five months! The sessions are these:
- How did we get here? A history of the United Methodist church and of Fountain City United Methodist Church.
- Who are United Methodists? A look at our doctrine, polity (form of government), Social Creed, etc. (A popular question: “How do we get (rid of) our pastors?”)
- Who Are These People We Keep Reading/ Hearing About? Meet the staff – or at least some of us – and some of our lay leaders.
- “Ask It Basket” for the pastors. Ask them whatever you wish. For example, “Who really is the best Ping-Pong player?”
- How do I join and how can I serve? Profession of Faith? Transfer of membership? What does membership mean?
The natural progression would be in the order listed above, but you can “jump in” at any time. If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch with one of the pastors. The sessions are held from 9:45—10:40 a.m. on Sunday mornings in room 136.
