Philosophy

The preschool years are an exciting adventure for the young child. Our program will help your child to be more independent as he relates with his peer group without parental guidance.

From the six-month-old to the four-year-old, we will be helping your child to use the appropriate “tools” of his trade. Remember, “child’s play” in a developmental environment is really “work” to the child. Your child approaches it as seriously as Dad and Mom approach their daily work.

We will provide opportunities to develop the whole child - with experiences in music, rhythm, literature, listening, language, science, and mathematics on the child’s individual level of ability and achievement.

Registration

Registration takes place in March for the following school year (September - May). Preference is given to FCUMC church members and those currently in the program.

Fountain City UMC Preschool is licensed by the State of Tennessee and has achieved a 3-star rating. We serve 198 children in the Knoxville area.

The Preschool is accredited by NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children). It is governed by a Preschool board composed of FCUMC members, an FCUMC staff representative, a parent who is not a member of FCUMC, and the Preschool Director.

Program Hours

Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays.

• Infants (6-18 months): 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday
• Toddlers (19 months by September 30 to 3 Years Old): 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday
• Three-Year-Olds (Must be 3 by September 30): 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday
• Four-Year-Olds (Must be 4 by September 30): 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday or Tuesday and Thursday
• Lunch Friends (for 3 and 4-year-olds enrolled in Preschool): 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday

Staff

The Director of Fountain City United Methodist Church Preschool is Susan Todd. She has her M.S. in English Education and has served as Director for twenty-three years. Other staff members include:
