Music
A rich tradition of sacred music, a wonderful variety of styles, and the fulfillment of being a vital part of music ministry are just a few of the attractions of being involved. Choirs are the foundation of music ministry at Fountain City United Methodist Church, and we encourage everyone to be an active part of the choral and instrumental program. Do you have to be able to read music perfectly and sing beautifully? No. Do you have to have a heart for singing beautiful praises to the Lord? Yes!
If you are interested in becoming a part of this ministry, please contact Andrew Duncan, the Director of Music Ministries at 689-5175 or via email at aduncan@fountaincityumc.org.

Younger Children’s Music

The younger children’s music at FCUMC encompasses crafts, music education, worship, and service. Children are taught the fundamentals of singing, and are led in experiencing a variety of sacred music, art, and dance. Sprouts is for children age 3, Wiggle Worms is for children 4 to 5-years-old, and Cross Training is for children in first or second grade. These groups meet on Wednesday evenings at 6:30.
Older Children - the Tween Team
The Tween Team, our third through fifth graders, have two big music opportunities. The Genesis Handbell Ensemble is our beginning ringing group. Participants learn the basics of music notation and handbell technique. Tween Team Studio is a multimedia production lab where the kids create their own music, movies, and videos. From the first conception to final production - they are the directors, actors, singers, and producers!
Music and Youth
Youth Choir is for youth in grades 6-12. All youth in this age group are welcome, whether they are members of Fountain City United Methodist Church or not. The Youth Choir is an educational and service-oriented group. The choir sings about once a month in worship services, and takes part in a Youth Choir Summer Tour soon after school is out in the early summer.

OffeRing is our intermediate to advanced youth handbell ensemble, and is open to youth grades 6-12. An elementary understanding of musical notation is needed to participate in this group, and some previous experience in handbell ringing is required. OffeRing is a five-octave handbell ensemble and is limited to 14 participants. If you are new at handbell ringing, consider joining OffeRing II. This group meets on Tuesday afternoons from 4:00 - 5:00, and is well suited for the beginning handbell ringer.
Adult Music Ensembles
The Chancel Choir is made up of adults above high school age, although youth may attend if they are also active in the Youth Choir. No audition is required to join. The Chancel Choir sings in the Sunday morning services, and also provides special services at Christmas and Easter. There is an annual choir retreat each August.
The Chancel Choir sings a wide variety of music ranging from choral classics, new compositions, and spirituals to comtemporary Christian and gospel. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings. The Fountain City Chorale is another adult choir option, and meets on Sunday evenings from 5:00 - 6:00. The Fountain City Chorale does not sing regularly in worship, but takes part in special programs as well as community outreach.

The Journey Band is our contemporary worship praise team, and provides music for the Journey on Sunday mornings. The Journey Band uses instruments and singers from many different traditions, including contemporary Christian to gospel. The Journey Band rehearses on Wednesday evenings.
The Tollers are our adult handbell ensemble. An elementary understanding of musical notation is needed to participate, but no previous experience in handbell ringing is necessary to participate in this group. The Tollers play periodically for worship services, participate in handbell festivals, and on special occasions accompany the choirs. The Tollers rehearse on Wednesday evenings during the school year.
