I cannot help but wonder if we Fountain Citians actually ate all that food this past weekend that we bought last week. Every time I drove by the grocery stores on up until Friday night the parking lots were packed. Admittedly, I was in the store once myself. Judy also made a stop (we duplicated a couple of the items), primarily because we were having three of our grandkids with us over the weekend. Did we all think we were going to be snowed in for two weeks? All the lines were pretty long, so I just went through the self checkout and didn’t realize until later that I missed the sr. discount day opportunity because I did self check-out.
Since none of us can pack up the food we didn’t eat and send it to Haiti, I am going to make a suggestion. We realize, of course, that the people there cannot go to the well-stocked grocery store like we can. I am quite sure they would love to be able to go to the store to overstock their pantry and would willingly stand in line for however long they would need to (sr. discount or not). Therefore if you were one of the thousands who flocked to the store and filled the grocery store coffers to overflowing, would you be willing to donate that same amount for Haiti relief? In addition to what we have already given, Judy and I will do that. I encourage you to let your gift be over and above what you have given or will otherwise give.
Thus far we at FCUMC have contributed $5,888 to Haiti relief. Please mark your check or envelope “Haiti Snow Fund” and let’s see how much “extra” we can give out of our extra. Judy and I are grateful to be able to do that.
