With Ava Barber and Fredda Valentine-Temples, Thursday, April 23, 2009
Ava Barber started singing at Inskip Baptist Church and sang with the Central High School chorus for four years. In 1974, Ava won an audition with the Lawrence Welk Show. Her performance was successful and at the age of nineteen, she became a regular on the show. After the show ended, she and her husband toured the United States and Canada doing what they love – music. Ava calls Knoxville home, but she also performs in Branson, Missouri.
In 1985, Fredda Valentine-Temples met Ava Barber and traveled nationwide with “Ava and The Stars of the Lawrence Welk Show Concert Series.” After forming her own band in the 80’s, she began her solo career in the 90’s. She recently released a gospel CD featuring 2 songs she has written. She performs throughout the east Tennessee area.
Ava and Fredda will perform together in a special evening for retirees on April 23, 2009, at 5:00 p.m. The program will include “oldies” and gospel music. Dinner will follow at 6:00 p.m. and is $6.00. Reservations must be made with Jean Payne by April 21.
