Upcoming Music Events

It’s never too early to start planning—even if all you do is pencil in the following events in your calendar.

All youth and parents should take note that February 24 is Youth Sunday. The Youth Choir will be serving as the choir for both traditional morning services.

One of our conference United Methodist colleges will be visiting us for a concert of sacred favorites. Come and hear the Concert Choir & Chorale from Tennessee Wesleyan College on February 24, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m..

Our Good Friday service is traditionally a Tenebrae service, or “service of darkness.” This year we will be using a cantata by Hal Hopson simply entitled “Tenebrae” as our musical setting of this moving service. Please plan on participating in this conclusion of the Lenten season. “Tenebrae” will be presented by the Chancel Choir on Good Friday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary.

This year’s Knox Area Handbell Festival will be held April 11-12 at Second Presbyterian Church. This year we will be taking a handbell choir made up of our youth and adult ringers to participate in the festival. Handbell festivals are a unique chance for ringers from all over the region to get together and work with world-class clinicians and directors. The final concert will be on April 12 at 4:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Don’t miss this musical spectacle of bells, brass, and percussion!

The Young Musicians are off to a great start this year! We are already working on our spring musical, entitled “TruthWorks.” This production is musically challenging yet fun, and the dramatic dialogs are perfect for our kids—they already know how to act goofy and roll their eyes! The Young Musicians will be presenting “TruthWorks” on Sunday evening, May 4 at 6:00 p.m..

Upcoming musical activities and events are posted online on the church website, as well as in The Spirit. For information on how you can get involved as a musician or volunteer helper, please contact Andrew Duncan via email at aduncan@fountaincityumc.org or 689-5175. You don’t have to read music or be a musical prodigy to be a part of the music ministry here at FCUMC!
